September 2011, San Antonio, TX – Our 90 day old 20 cu ft. freezer stopped cooling. We called GE immediately to report the problem and they sent a technician out next day at noon, who informed us it was a leak which would take 45 mins to repair. Shortly thereafter, he informed us the compressor went out and he would have to come back next Friday – A WEEK LATER!! We found this unacceptable and spent a great deal of time talking to Customer Service regarding the problem. The only solution GE could offer was to attempt to rush the repair and they scheduled us for Wednesday of the following week.
We explained our concern about the loss of food and GE assured us their insurance company would cover the cost – NOT!!! Their Insurance Company informed us they could offer us $150 which was ridiculously low seeing the 20 cu ft freezer was completely stocked.
Tuesday at noon the compressor arrived via Fed Ex and I called GE immediately in the hope that a repairman could come out that day and fix our freezer. But nooo…., GE said we would be on the list Wednesday morning 8am-12pm. It seemed absurd to me that the needed part was sitting in our living room for 24 hours waiting for GE to do what they should have done last Saturday.
8am-12pm next day came and went and although I called GE twice, they could again offer no solution but to wait for the repairman who was running late. He eventually arrived at 2pm and I knew something was wrong when he turned up in his personal car and had no tool bag with him!!! He could not believe that he was expected to install a compressor as he had no tools with him. He told us he would file a report and attempt to find another repairman to look at the freezer and was frustrated with the situation as we were. He left informing us that he would try to find someone to work on the freezer.
Sooo we called GE again and finally reached a Customer Service person named Charles who was so very helpful, made numerous calls to Dispatch, Jeanine and other personnel in order to resolve the situation. He did all he could, but Dispatch informed him they could not send another repairman to our home until tomorrow morning.
And so we wait. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU NOT BUY A GE APPLIANCE.
